2006 INTERNATIONAL SPIRIT AT WORK AWARD

Nominations and Applications Open - Final Deadline: May 30, 2006

One of the basic principles of organizational change is that you get more of what you reward. One of the basic spiritual principles is that what you give energy to grows. Most of the news about organizations these days is about negative actions and practices; fraudulent accounting, greed, laying people off while giving executives large bonuses, and so on.

The International Spirit at Work Award was created as an antidote to these negative stories. There are some exemplary organizations that are deeply committed to nurturing the human spirit. This award is a way to recognize and reward those organizations. It is a way to give energy to what is working in business, and to what is inspiring. It provides an opportunity for these leading edge organizations to tell their stories and to be a model for other organizations that may want to emulate their practices.

The International Spirit at Work Awards Conference will be held October 27-29, 2006 at the Garrison Institute, Garrison, NY.

EBBF members taking forward Moral Leadership initiative

EBBF member Shervin Setareh writes from his Master Degree at Columbia "my strategy professor (ex-McKinsey guy turned Adjunct Professor) at Columbia talked with me about his idea of setting up a half term course at Columbia Business School on Personal Mastery.

It would involve value-based leadership (VBL) modules very much along the Nur theme for b-school students whose average age range is between 26-34.He may consider adding a separate optional Friday class which discusses the themes from the point of view of the various religions.

Here what I am looking for: Some people with experience teaching b-school students the VBL stuff. An outline of a curriculim that would fit into half term, i.e. more or less 10 weeks x 3 hrs. If you knowanyone (are that person), please let me know."

Shervin is offering what is one of EBBF's objectives for this year, to promote the creation and implementation of a moral (or values based) leadership program. If you are interested to know more about this project, you may want to visit the Moral Leadership Group that Caroline Sawicki is facilitating.

Road Map to Effective Leadership

April 4th to 7th, 2006 - Czech Republic

Steki, a romantic 13th century castle hotel, built in a Neo-gothic style situated in the province of Prague, Czech Republic, is the setting for an intensive development programme for Senior Managers, Managers and Team Leaders that will take place between the 4th and the 7th of April.

"The Senior Management team of Tyco Electronics Energy Division attended a two day program on Leadership with Ardawan Lalui in April 2005. The two main objectives of the programme were to evaluate and understand our individual leadership qualities and to understand the process of decision making.

Ardawan's style of delivery was inspiring and he ahdd the entire management team hooked right from the very beginning. The programme objecctives were delivered well beyonf tintitial expectations. On the last day of the prgoram we appleid the decision making process to a real problem that had arisen back at the plant. We had a plan of action agreed within two hours and the problem was solved by early the following week.

The methodical process and our fast action ensured that we delighted one of our customers. We all agreed that if we had attempted to deal with this issue in our "pre-Lalui style" it would have taken weeks to solve"

Fiona O'Carroll, HR Manager, Tyco Electronics

It is a well known wisdom that a leader can never rise above the limitations of his / her own - character -. A good leader must also develop business and interpseronal - capabilities - to create an environment which is conducive to both organisational and individual growth.

This unique and practical leadership programme, which si run over a three-day persion, focuses on the balance between characte and capabilities that is required to transform you into a highly effective leader.
It will guide you to dramatically improve overall business and personal performance, and enjoy doing it.

Contact EBBF member Ardawan Lalui ( ardawan.laluilalui.com ) to find all the details of the course.

Due to the intensive personal nature of this program, spaces are limited to 10 participants only!

When you book, mention the code - MEMBER DISCOUNT - an EBBF membership benefit allowing you to enjoy a 10% discount on the course fee.

"Dr. lalui's approach is definitely not mechanistic. It helps persons understand themselves and where and how they fit into their work or personal environments, with the overarching theme that

- the person that you can most influence for change is yourself. By doing so, this will eventually lead to positive change in others within your sphere of influence -

a simple concept that takes time for most people to embrace, but which delivers emphatic benefits to the person as an individual and to those with whom he/she interacts. This program was delivered to a fairly sceptical audience in Ireland. The results were amazing and transforming. I have been through the program and I can vouch for it."
