why should we rethink materialism?
A few initial views on why it is necessary and urgent to #RethinkMaterialism offered by registered participants coming to Geneva from around the world to share their views and explore together new ways forward, exploring the “what if” questions that will allow new paradigms to emerge and be implemented in our organizations. Materialism is just one dimension of human duality; the other is the spiritual dimension, humanity’s true reality.
We need to employ the material world in a positive way to express our spirituality. Elevate understanding is necessary in today’s world.

Fulfilling Material needs is fundamental to people and companies, I am fascinated by the necessary transition from materialism as a goal, to materialism as a means to fulfil higher more worthwhile goals allowing us to survive uncertain economic environments.
Rethinking, redistributing, re-….. it all starts with us! Followed by inspiring others, co-creating impact together and e.g. contributing to policy making, etc. one of the most important topics/problems in the world – relevant for the survival for a large part of humankind and ebbf has many knowledgeable members to contribute to co-create impact!
Our materialistic economy is raping our natural resources and destroying the planet, how can we create a new healthier balance?
Because materialism disables your ability to see what’s your true next step in life.
Current governances have not shown sufficient capacity to solve global issues like unfair distribution of wealth, poverty, discrimination, immigration, conflicts, exploitation of people, pollution and depletion of precious natural resources. New paradigms based on collective welfare need to be put in place.
Because modern-day culture is more individualistic and has for many years focused, reinforced and provided for material needs without considering the impact of this on other facets of the world and its future e.g. the environment, equity and generally ethical praxes.
Because it is eating up our soul and the fabric of our society and a better way is both possible and necessary.
We are too focused on materialistic things and we are missing the beauty of the moment, of our soul and of the souls of the others. Materialism can also be seen as a way to escape from yourself, maybe we need to find our inner strenght.
At each step of its evolution humankind has had to rethink and find different types of -ism or principles fit for each stage of growth. We now need to rethink materialism and transition to an -ism that will create better companies
We all try to contribute to the betterment of the world around us both in our neighborhoods and in our workplaces as well as in our communities. ebbf offers the perfect source of inspiration and energy to help making a larger impact.
Youth today are renouncing the brand of materialism followed by the parents and grandparents, even as they suffer the consequences of the materialistic beliefs and practices that previous generations promulgated. Future generations must guard against developing their own brands of destructive materialism, and should avoid anger, resentment, and cynicism toward a society that allowed a materialistic worldview to so greatly damage their present and future.
We need a shift from our present paradigm focused on what we do to a new one focused on why we do it.
