Webinar: “FUNDAEC – The Benefits of Decades of Development Learning”
We will be guided through an overview of FUNDAEC’s history and approach by Leslie Stewart, Director of FUNDAEC, on Feb 11 at 4 PM EST / 9 PM GMT / 10 PM CET
FUNDAEC (Fundacion para la Aplicacion y Ensenanza de las Ciencias) was started in Colombia in the early 1970s with the aim of incorporating science, technology and education in rural development. Its vision has been to incorporate the material and spiritual dimensions of development, and raise the capacity of the rural population to define its own development paths and priorities. It has done this through systematically-developed training programs, honed through action research in alternative agricultural production, agroindustry, community organization and formal education. The Rural University in Puerto Tejada became a beacon of light for bachelor’s and master’s students across Latin America, closely associated with the nearby Ruhi Institute, and the new local Baha’i House of Worship in Norte del Cauca is being constructed nearby. The SAT approach (Sistema Aprendizaje Tutorial, or Tutorial Learning System) was developed over a number of years and has been applied and adapted in numerous countries across Latin America, and several months ago we learned of one such application through the Bayan Foundation in Honduras.
All of you are people who are working or have worked in the field of international development, and I’m sure you agree that this is an area ripe for receiving new ideas, and the Baha’I principles when effectively shared can be truly transformative. We are anxious to learn how to improve in this noble task, and your inputs and involvement are crucial, please let us know what you think and how we can all learn together. For those of you on Facebook, our group is growing and we have a poll asking people how they would to participate, please let us know there or via email. The webinars are one way, and they can usually be accessed afterwards on our website: http://ebbf.org/development-reflections/
