EBBF Profile: Françoise Le Goff – Navigating Dilemmas with Principles

“... the key issue in my mind was the fact that beneficiaries and vulnerable people were being deprived of support. I felt strongly about principles such as honesty, professional integrity, and justice--to be the voice for the voiceless. I was also very aware that my own reputation –my own integrity– was possibly at stake. If I didn’t denounce what was happening, I saw that some would think that I was endorsing it. This gave me the courage to speak out. And in the end, this action triggered a change process that was very positive, and very, very successful in the long run.”

In this interview we talk to Françoise Le Goff about three challenging moments in her long international career with the Red Cross dealing with corruption, domestic violence, and disagreeing with one's superiors, and how her values provided guidance each step of the way.

EBBF Profile: Alexis Eremia - Creating Spaces Where Young Leaders Emerge

“We believe that every individual has the potential to make a meaningful contribution to the world, to create value, to have a positive impact.”

“…I don’t really believe in the concept of ‘teaching’. What is important is to have an ‘enabling space’, which has the proper conditions for something to be created, to emerge—be these mindsets, new ideas, connections. You can’t really plan or control the emergence, but you can create the environment that enables this.”

In this interview, 28-year old Alexis Eremia describes her work with Emersense, the NGO she founded two years ago and directs, and which is dedicated to creating ‘enabling spaces’ where young, idealistic, and sometimes big dreams can flourish.
